Quality Assurance

All GT gravimeters pass through a phalanx of tests both during and after manufacture, designed to ensure that each unit shipped meets or exceeds HOTspecifications.  From vibrations, temperature cycling, humidity, salt-water spray, motion tests on a Scorsby bench, special elevator and swinging platforms to induce large vertical and horizontal accelerations, to collecting data on a bench for days at a stretch, a GT meter is rigorously and thoroughly tested.  Performance in the field over the past 3 years has proven the value of such a thorough quality assurance program.

The gravimeter output data is recorded during all tests.  Under the extreme conditions represented in these films, the RMS output is always within 0.2 mGals.  Click on the images to see some of the tests in action (best viewed with Microsoft Windows Media Player).

            Scorsby (WMV format 192 KB)

            Gt-1A with rotation table and

            shock-mount.  Two motion speeds

are shown in the film.  Listen to the

voices in the background - the

film has not been speeded up!

            System output over a bandwidth

of 0.017 Hz is less than 0.2 mGals.

For further details, see Lab Test 3

            with 60 second filter.

            Swing (WMV format 193 KB)

            GT-1A with no rotation table

            or shock-mount.

            Elevator (WMV format 440 KB)

            GT-1A mounted within the

            red cylinder.

            Data is monitored and recorded

during all tests for later analyses

            and confirmation that the instru-

            ment meets specifications.
